What can mental health counseling help with?

While mental health counseling can help with various concerns, Christopher specializes in anxiety and depression, career counseling and school issues, grief and life transitions, LGBTQ+ and relationship issues, and self-esteem and stress.

Where is mental health counseling provided, and for whom?

Christopher offers in-person and virtual (telehealth) mental health counseling services in NJ for individuals 18 years of age and older. Virtual counseling is conducted through a secure platform that strictly adheres to HIPAA regulations, safeguarding the confidentiality and privacy of your personal information.

What are the rates and insurance options for mental health counseling?

  • The self-pay rate is $125 per session. A sliding scale may be offered to self-pay clients upon request on a limited and case-by-case basis.

  • Some in-network insurance plans and employee assistance program (EAP) benefits should be accepted in the coming months. Depending on your insurance plan or EAP benefits, services may be covered in full or in part.

  • While Christopher will verify your coverage details to help estimate costs, it is also recommended that you contact your insurance company or EAP to understand how your plan or program covers mental health counseling.

  • If your insurance plan is not in-network but you have out-of-network coverage, you may be eligible to submit a superbill to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. A superbill is a detailed invoice outlining the services you received during your counseling sessions, associated fees you paid, and diagnostic codes. While Christopher does not bill insurance companies for out-of-network coverage, you can receive a superbill upon request and submit it to your insurer for possible reimbursement, which may help offset counseling costs.

  • If you are uninsured and/or choosing to self-pay, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your services may cost. For information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, please visit cms.gov/nosurprises.

What is the process for requesting mental health counseling?

1. Please submit your interest through the Contact options below. Christopher will contact you within two business days to schedule a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns.

2. If mental health counseling fits your needs, Christopher will discuss coverage and/or self-pay options.

3. Once your payor source is identified, Christopher will send you a Consent for Services, Notice of Privacy Practices, and other needed forms to your email on file to sign and complete through a HIPAA-compliant electronic health records system, which is required before receiving services. Your first session, generally 53 to 60 minutes, would also be scheduled where you will be advised of known fees, if applicable, contingent on your payor source, receive an overview of confidentiality and the counseling process, discuss presenting concerns, and begin to develop a treatment plan based on your goals. From there, a session cadence will be scheduled as appropriate.
