Mental Health Counseling
We provide mental health counseling to help clients navigate various work-life concerns, using evidence-based and
trauma-informed approaches, such as cognitive behavioral (CBT), problem-solving (PST), and solution-focused (SFBT) modalities. Because needs differ, our style is eclectic and person-centered, using techniques that fit your goals.

Service-specific details and frequently asked questions are listed below:

What can mental health counseling help with?
While mental health counseling can help with a variety of needs, our specialties include anxiety and depression, career and school issues, grief and life transitions, and LGBTQ and relationship concerns.

Where is mental health counseling provided, and for whom?

We provide in-person and virtual (telehealth) mental health counseling services for individuals 18 years of age and older in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Virtual counseling is conducted through a secure platform that adheres to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, safeguarding the confidentiality and privacy of your personal information.

What are the insurance options and the self-pay rate for mental health counseling?

We are in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BlueCard), Cigna, Horizon, Meritain, and United commercial insurance. While we will verify your benefit details to help estimate costs, you should also contact your insurer or EAP to understand how your plan covers mental health counseling. For example, is there a deductible to meet or a co-pay per session?
The self-pay rate is $125 per session.

A sliding scale may be offered upon request on a case-by-case and limited basis.

-
If you are uninsured and/or choosing to self-pay, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your services may cost. For information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, please visit cms.gov/nosurprises.

-
If you are insured but not in-network and choose to self-pay, you may be able to submit a superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement if your plan includes out-of-network benefits. A superbill is an invoice outlining the services you received, fees you paid, and diagnostic codes. Upon request, we can provide superbills for out-of-pocket sessions, which clients can submit to their insurer if they choose to do so.

-
While not affiliated with Work and Life Solutions LLC, you can use Thrizer, a third-party service, to help verify your out-of-network benefits and submit superbills. They will manage the reimbursement process end-to-end for you. Once you meet your deductible, you can request an instant reimbursement to skip the insurance wait or receive reimbursements in a few weeks via direct deposit. You can create an account and get started here.

How long is each session, and how many sessions do I need?
Sessions are generally 45-60 minutes in duration, including time for appropriate closure. They are typically scheduled once per week at a mutually agreed-upon time, though the frequency may vary. The duration and frequency of sessions are based on treatment needs, scheduling, and, if applicable, insurance plan or EAP requirements.

What is the process for requesting mental health counseling?

1. Submit your interest through the contact options below. Someone from our office will reach out to you within two business days to gather more information and, if requested, provide a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns.
2. If mental health counseling services are available and fit your needs, we will discuss payment options.

3. Once your payor source is confirmed, we will send you intake paperwork to your email on file to read, sign, and complete through a HIPAA-compliant health records system. These forms are required before receiving services. Your intake session will also be scheduled, during which you will receive an overview of confidentiality and the counseling process, explore your concerns, and begin to discuss a treatment plan. Following this, a session cadence will be scheduled as appropriate.
